How is Solar Energy Typically Generated and Used?

In case you didn't know, solar energy is generated by solar panels. These rectangular, glass coated boards are generally found in groups called solar arrays, which vary in size depending on the amount of solar panels in the array.

Large arrays are often found on the sides of highways serving as renewable power plants.

Small arrays, on the other hand, can be found on the roofs of houses and commercial buildings providing power for individual settlements.

Small arrays are hooked up to power lines that connect to both a building's electrical system as well as an external electrical grid. Owners of solar panels send the majority of the electricity they generate to a solar battery that powers their home or commercial building, and sell their excess electricity to a power company. This is done by transferring electricity to an external power grid, which is owned by a power company.
